Incident: Network infrastructure (Smart Servers) [Resolved]
To open a new ticket please use the “Server Unavailable” option in your customer hub (hub.iweb.com) so a sysadmin can follow up directly with you. When you create a ticket, it currently will not be displayed in the customer hub. Do not worry, we have it in our system. The response time on the chat and on the phone is also back to more normal levels.
A more detailed technical update will also be published in the next 24-48h following our postmortem.
Thank you again for your patience and your understanding.–
Update 2012-02-09 16:15 EST – Number of servers still affected is now down to less that 20. VLANs of affected servers had to be reconfigured and IP addressing had to be corrected on some servers. Next update at 17:00 EST
–
Update 2012-02-09 15:35 EST -We have made some progress as more affected servers are now accessible. We came down to about 150 servers still unreachable. Our network admins are still working on adjusting network configurations to provide our clients with a permanent solution. Next status update will be published at approx 16:15 EST.
–
Update 2012-02-09 14:45 EST – An emergency network maintenance is currently ongoing in order to apply new network configurations (http://blog.iweb.com/en/2012/02/maintenance-control-center-5/9797.html). We expect this will help alleviate the connectivity problems still affecting approximately 450 servers. Next status update will be published at 15:30EST .

Update 2012-02-09 12:20 EST- 90% of IP addressing and traffic on our NE datacenter (Smart Servers) are back to normal.
For those still having difficulties accessing their servers or websites, we advise you to perform the following actions in order to re-establish your services since they have been sucessfull with customers.
1. Determine if you can access your server via ssh
2. Perform a DNS query to reestablish ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)
- logon to server via ssh using public IP (do not use domain name)
- attempt to ping any public website, such as google.com
3. Attempt to restart services and network
- Restart any unresponsive services
- then restart network by typing the following commands:
CentOS: service network restart OR /etc/init.d/network restart
Debian/Ubuntu: /etc/init.d/networking restart
If these actions are unsuccessful, please log a “server not working ” ticket in the customer hub, if you have not already created one.
When you create a ticket it will not show up in the customer hub at the moment. But do not worry we have it in our system. If you already created a ticket for the ongoing issue please do not create a new one.
We remind you that due to the greater amount of tickets to be treated, the response time on the chat and the phone is slower than normal.

February 8th, 2012 11:41 pm
I love when client websites go down. This issue needs to be fixed within the next few hours or there’s going to be issues tomorrow morning with my clients not being able to send emails. I’ve got several businesses in the NYC area relying on this to be working correctly for a work day tomorrow morning.
Night of coffee has started.
February 8th, 2012 11:41 pm
I agree. Can we have at least ETA from you people?
February 8th, 2012 11:41 pm
I thought iweb advertise near 100% uptime.
February 8th, 2012 11:43 pm
1 hour of downtime. Wow, incredible. We were in the middle of a product launch and we lost thousands of dollars. Fortunately their SLA policy will probably credit 0.10$ on my invoice.
February 8th, 2012 11:44 pm
Don’t you have a 100% network up time Guarantee?

February 8th, 2012 11:46 pm

Mine started at 2300
how long will it take normally?
February 8th, 2012 11:47 pm

February 8th, 2012 11:47 pm

February 9th, 2012 12:09 am
Why the iWeb not even updating the status? They have the responsibility to answer us
is this what you call SUPPORT?
an question for iWeb, can i send my customers requests for reimbursement to you?

someone has servers that are not that smart online?
February 9th, 2012 12:22 am
Dear brothers,
I am currently DDoSing iweb because they overcharged me 5$ on my last bill.
Your servers being down is acceptable collateral damage.
WHERE IS YOUR SMART SERVER NOW?
OH RIGHT, IT’S OFFLINE!
Good luck.
Sincerly,
MagicJihad.
February 9th, 2012 12:22 am
Going for 2 hours of downtime..
February 9th, 2012 12:23 am
Hi Everyone,
Please be advised that iWeb is doing everything possible to resolve this unfortunate situation. We apologize for all the issues caused by this incident and we thank you for your patience.
We are aware that your acces to the iWeb website and to your control center maybe disrupted as there are a lot of requests comming in. We will post status updates as soon as we have more information about this incident and an ETA on resolution.

February 9th, 2012 12:26 am
My servers are down too. The servers were very slow for several days. And now completely down. Are they over selling the $79 servers?
February 9th, 2012 12:27 am
@Dominic G
Go make this record thinking as problem 2 hours away is a big problem
February 9th, 2012 12:27 am

February 9th, 2012 12:30 am
Viernes!!!!!
February 9th, 2012 12:30 am
It’s a good thing nobody is using iweb for any real business applications.
February 9th, 2012 12:30 am
We need to tell our customers “when” it will be back online. And iWeb should refuse spontaneously anybody with the word jihad in its name… this is targeted to magicjihad
February 9th, 2012 12:30 am
Please update server uptime. Our two servers are down. Our clients have been complaining,
@Brian O.
You mention that we’ll be all 1 day without service??? or poorly understood
February 9th, 2012 12:31 am
@Bouel that’s not funny. At all.
February 9th, 2012 12:31 am
@Dominic G.
Thanks for the update.
Our previous hosts (Server01) had an issue for 6 days and they flat out denied any issues (yes, our server was down for almost a week), so I appreciate the transparency from iWeb, and we hope you can resolve the issue soon.
February 9th, 2012 12:31 am
Sems up
February 9th, 2012 12:32 am
People – Brian O./Bouel is obviously a fake.

February 9th, 2012 12:39 am

February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
How come iWeb website is working. Maybe hosted with a some other reliable hosting solution. :-)
Tengo 5 servidores y todos estan down.
Como piensan compensar a nosotros sus clientes?
February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
I think it’s pretty poor that the notifications are done through a BLOG and not through the customer hub where we have to log tickets.
The lack of communication is dreadful.
Still waiting for service to be restored
February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
#Occupy iWeb
February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
OMG brian o is a fake!!!!!
February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… I had my servers at 1and1 and never had a problem for 2 years.. Move to iWeb a month ago and now my sites will be down until friday.. Thats alot of revenue lost for me..
for the 100% uptime claims iweb should have a backup or spares of major components in stock and on hand…
If it is not resolved by tomorrow I will be leaving iweb and going back to 1and1…
February 9th, 2012 12:39 am
Viernes? JA…
well, Brian O./Bouel is a fake, but i think he’s telling the trust..
February 9th, 2012 12:41 am
Is everyone loosing as much money as i am by being down, not including the credits for down time hosting. This service interruption is not a good thing,
Podrian decirme?
As is the issue of compensation?
We give credit for the hours off-line?
They could tell me?
February 9th, 2012 12:42 am
lo del viernes es un fake :)
February 9th, 2012 12:42 am
I love how this phone message keeps informing me that the best and fastest way to get support is through the client area, the one that I obviously can’t access. :)
@Nicolas – Thanks for the reply!
February 9th, 2012 12:43 am
Please remove a post from Bouel is a FAKE.

@vache asatryan
You’re correct in saying that most of us don’t run a website or database as big as twitter however you’re wrong is saying that this should be an issue in which we should chill. This is an important issue, considering morning is coming up in a few hours and it’s a business day. Many of us have clients in who need access to things such as email – let alone their website.
February 9th, 2012 12:45 am
Please remove the comment from Brian O. is one of the fake $ # $ # $%.
February 9th, 2012 12:45 am
Hi Everyone,
There is no employee of iWeb Technologies named Brian O. All post posted by this person must be ignored. We are working towards a solution and it is progressing. Unfortunatly, we cannot give you all an ETA yet.
Best regards,
Dominic G.
System Administrator at iWeb Technologies
February 9th, 2012 12:46 am
My clients are already complaining
what I cannot believe is that I went to iweb for “Canadian” hosting… and they put me in a NE datacenter without even notifying me about it until now… I feel like ive been frauded and now that downtime….
Vache, a lot of people rely on iWeb “STABLE” services for their customers. Our customers are 100% e-commerce with over 10,000 products and a lot of sales sometimes in the millions, just imagine what it would be like if all of iweb was down like this ? And I am pretty sure I am not the only one affected by that.
They should definitely have a backup solutions to guarantee their uptime. But even if they own a bunch of datacenters it seems no engineers thought about it.
February 9th, 2012 12:47 am
Vashe you obviosly do not have a large server I have multiple forums on 2 dedicated smart servers with over 100,0000 members combined….. well over a million page views per month. So it actually is a very a big deal to be down for a few days..
February 9th, 2012 12:48 am
Can anyone confirm if you can access your webservers via “VIRTUAL CONSOLE” on the control center?
Because i can, i see load is 0.00
Dont know if its my problem or Iweb.
my server id is : NE-T023-170
Can you tell me pls? thanks
February 9th, 2012 12:48 am
@Dominic G.
Can you at least provide us with a clear explanation of what’s actually going on and what is being done to fix the issue? I think that a lot of us would just like the reassurance.
Thanks.
February 9th, 2012 12:48 am
moving to 1and1 tomorrow. I’m sick of this!
3:47AM, two hours of downtime, about 600 websites down and i`m without email or ticket system..
February 9th, 2012 12:48 am
@Cody Colby – exactly correct.
We have made committments to our clients based on the guarantees provided by our supplier.
Many of my clients launched marketing campaigns over the last few days and they will be really upset about the lost opportunity
February 9th, 2012 12:49 am
My clients are from Spain and its morning already
February 9th, 2012 12:49 am
Nicolas – NE is the abbreviation for the data centre on Newman Blvd. in LaSalle, Quebec, Canada. You can see the abbreviations for all the data centres here: http://iweb.com/hosting-support
@Charly
Do those commitments happen to include the 100% network up time right? We’ve done the same however this shows a lack of that 100% uptime on both iweb’s part and ours. Who do our clients go to in order to make their complaints heard? You guessed it. They see nothing about iweb, only downtime on our part. ;)
February 9th, 2012 12:52 am
Can anyone confirm if you can access your webservers via “VIRTUAL CONSOLE” on the control center?
Because i can, i see load is 0.00
Dont know if its my problem or Iweb.
my server id is : NE-T023-170
Can you tell me pls? thanks
February 9th, 2012 12:52 am
My clients (500 000) are from Germany and its morning already
February 9th, 2012 12:52 am
Here in Brazil now is 03:51 AM, soon my clients are trying to access the application and what I tell them iweb?
I need sleep too, what do I do?
February 9th, 2012 12:54 am
Please update us on the progress, when the server will be back.
February 9th, 2012 12:54 am
Hello people
My server still down. I´ve just told with Nick P. thru chat and he told me :
Nick P.: all of ne is affected :(
Nick P.: and no estimate of time right now to provide , realy sorry
Fabian: but you say no time.. tomorrow ?
Fabian: in few hours?
Fabian: what happened ?
Nick P.: few hours
Nick P.: problem with a network switch
Regards
Fabian
February 9th, 2012 12:54 am
My site is currently up. I hope to see a full explanation once the issue is fully resolved.
@Carlos, yes my server was accessible through virtual console during the outage.
February 9th, 2012 12:54 am
I can access my virtual console !
February 9th, 2012 12:55 am
É Luiz, a coisa ta preta!
February 9th, 2012 12:55 am
@Luiz Henrique
I don’t think there is such thing as sleep. I had a design for a client that I promised to have finished tonight and well – tonight is ending in 5 minutes at my location. I can’t sleep until his design is done and now, I can’t even work on it. :)
February 9th, 2012 12:56 am
I’ve been client of iWeb for over 6 years and this is the first time I have an issue with them.
Every time I’ve come to them with any issue, they have solved it in an acceptable response time.
So, I’m sure they are doing they’re best effort to bring our servers back online.
I have a smart server and a regular one. Regular is ok, Smart server is down.
February 9th, 2012 12:56 am
at least this blog is up to know the status :)
February 9th, 2012 12:57 am
Guys, your server is online but the network is down, thats why you can access it on the Virtual Console, since the LAN is on, but the WAN is off
February 9th, 2012 12:57 am
Nothing yet… I cannot even sleep, my phone keeps ringing the alerts that my websites are down and up, down and up, down and up, down and up, down and up, down and up… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
So I’m assuming next invoice will be for free… since they are not taking serious their 100% uptime BS!!!!
Apoguy… is 1and1 better than this???
February 9th, 2012 12:57 am
ahh you guys are so cute, why would you remove my comment :(?
I am in australia and this happened during the peak hours of business here. In the last two hours my clients have not not stopped calling and asking for an explaination as to what happend to thier websites. Hope you guys fix it soon. I have told my clients 2-3 hours. They are very very upset. Some sort of an update as to what is happening and some sort of ETA would really be helpful. Thanks
February 9th, 2012 12:58 am
One of the servers are up. The other two are down.
February 9th, 2012 12:59 am
“A” network switch? As in one?
Are there no redundant switches / networks??
February 9th, 2012 12:59 am
What’s the status? still down for me..
February 9th, 2012 12:59 am
@john I don’t know. Somebody here said it is…
We are going for the third hour now. GREAT, this is just GREAT iweb!
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
@Cody – those committments are based on the promises made by the supplier – absolutely. I’m not impressed by the lack of communication and updates from iWeb. It makes giving an honest answer VERY hard. One wonders just what had to wrong to take up what appears to be a relatively large segment of their network — particularly when redundancy is supposed to be in place.
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
those smart servers arent so smart ehh
i’m losing $300/hour here becuz of this downtime, i hope iweb give me the next 2 month for free or i will migrate to a more reliable host :
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
@glb that’s what they said on the live chat like 2.30 hours ago
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
mouse cut the network cable ? what happens….?
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
Nicolas, NE is in Canada, it’s what they call the data center that’s about 10 minutes from where I live. Maybe I should drive over there and bring them a new switch? :)
I don’t understand why it’s such downtime if all they need to do is swap out the switch???
February 9th, 2012 1:00 am
Guys at-least give us ETA because we have to answer our clients!
@Aiman Jalil Sarraf: Very black! problem we need to rest, I worked all day, and when I was preparing to sleep, at 1:00 am I find that everything is offline, would be better if I had not seen.
February 9th, 2012 1:02 am
The hub is also below does not answer the phone or chatting someone who lives in canada …..
whats with all the threats??? do you do that to your car company or dealer?? if you are actually going to move from iWeb for one downtime on a small portion of servers than you are pretty silly
February 9th, 2012 1:02 am
@Cody Colby also feel sorry for you, sorry for all of us.
February 9th, 2012 1:02 am
@Dominic Update Status Thanks
February 9th, 2012 1:02 am
Seriously is very unacceptable from you for don’t have a replacement part ,i have one server contain a community on it and my voice server and few game server and request a excuse from iweb for don’t have all material for repair any material network trouble
February 9th, 2012 1:03 am
@ilya p… LOL smart servers that are not that smart at all
Those definitely lack of it…
@Apoguy, I heard also that softlayer are better… any ideas?
February 9th, 2012 1:03 am
Status of 3 servers in iWeb from last 2.5 hours http://twitpic.com/8hibil
February 9th, 2012 1:03 am
The classic servers are running… only the smart servers network is down. Smart downtime.
February 9th, 2012 1:03 am
i guess for some people losing thousands of dollars and ur business partners trust is “silly”
February 9th, 2012 1:04 am
I’m already 12 cancellations by telephone. Loss to date 15 000 €. We are already designated as a fraud
February 9th, 2012 1:05 am
The “Estimated time of resolution: N/A” indicates there’s no hope of getting this fixed anytime soon.
February 9th, 2012 1:05 am
@Luiz, same here, i was just finishing an movie and – WTF, all servers down?!
First off i got worry about rest, now im getting worried about the customers, since its 4AM and they will wake up soon
February 9th, 2012 1:06 am
This is my update…
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /en/.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Server at hub.iweb.com Port 443
February 9th, 2012 1:06 am
ilya p if you are looking for a 100% uptime service forever you should have a backup service setup, there is no way in the world that you can seriously tell me that you are loosing thousands of dollars and knowing you would loose thousands od dollars you do not have backup plans, thats silly
February 9th, 2012 1:06 am
Softlayer are best, but they don’t give much bandwidth. I just shifted to iWeb.com for 20TB bandwidth… but guys try to understand machines do fail. However iWeb should be more responsible from now…. they can’t even replace a switch in 3 hours :(
February 9th, 2012 1:06 am
Well, my servers are back up. Thank you. Still waiting on a clients servers to finish out my night load of work before I get to fall asleep. :) My coffee is getting cold – 3 more cups. :)
@John Softlayers are BETTER HAN IWEB but they so expensive service….
I just moved to semoweb.com better server thus far
OMG!!!!…Lots of phone calls…Ringing my Phone……Website not open….
February 9th, 2012 1:08 am
Hello
Virtual console.. OK.. but because LAN is OK.. the problem is WAN.
The servers are OK. Here is 3:07 am.. i hope this fixed in few hours..
I have 2 classic servers (ON) and 1 smart (DOWN)
Regards
Fabian
February 9th, 2012 1:08 am
@John I really don’t know about others. I’ve been with iweb for like 5 years now. And this isn’t the first issue. More like the 100th. Once I got like 3 month free for a similar downtime.
February 9th, 2012 1:10 am
Yet again iWeb can’t provide an ETA for resolving an outage…
Some times it is working for few minutes and sometimes it is ofline. this needs to be fixed ASAP
@Dominic G. how long will have a solution, and spent about two hours, why not update the blog, they are doing now to solve the problem?
February 9th, 2012 1:11 am
@mary… jmmm could be… but if you wanna get something with 100% uptime then I rather to pay a little bit more and have everything up and running and not interrupting my sleepy night… Damn I hate this!!!
How is it possible that they cannot switch the switch????? And if they did already, do they know how to configure that? or they just plug that expecting to be configure by it self magically?
February 9th, 2012 1:12 am
Hoooo My GOd i want to cry
February 9th, 2012 1:13 am
@Aiman Jalil Sarraf to lhe seguindo no twitter.
February 9th, 2012 1:13 am

February 9th, 2012 1:13 am

February 9th, 2012 1:14 am
@Ludwing
I also want to cry
February 9th, 2012 1:17 am
@lol This is worst than freddy!!!!
Yet they dont do their 100% uptime but they charge you ONTIME!!!!
February 9th, 2012 1:17 am
It’s down for 3 hours almost. I have $1000 orders missing……
February 9th, 2012 1:17 am
Lost over $240 of my advertising budget way to go.
February 9th, 2012 1:18 am
Jonathan B.: There is currently a network issue near the location of your server that makes that it can be possible that your server is not currently reachable. We do not have an ETA for a resolution, but we are working urgently to fix the issue since we understand the emergency to fix the problem.
Jonathan B.: All updates will be posted in our blog, blog.iweb.com.
February 9th, 2012 1:19 am
Outages suck, but for those loosing 800+ in 2 hours, maybe you should be looking at some redundancy.
After all if you are earning $400 an hour.. then that is plenty enough for a couple of racks around the place
Kingsley
February 9th, 2012 1:19 am
ETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! GIVE US A DAMN ETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
February 9th, 2012 1:20 am
Vou durmir, não aguento mais esperar.
I sleep, I can not stand to wait.
ssh works but if offline
February 9th, 2012 1:21 am
1 – 2 servers up and flew | 3 – 4 it came back for more | 5 – 6 time for a fix | 7 -8 Stay up late | 9 – 10 servers gone again
**Have to love nightmare on elm street.
February 9th, 2012 1:21 am
Thank You kingsley :)))) exactly my point, if you are actually making thousands of dollars per hour than maybe you should have hired a good IT advisor who would have told you to have multiple geolocations silly cow
February 9th, 2012 1:21 am
Unfortunately, I cannot provide to you that kind of information since our network team is still making verifications to make sure we will come to a resolution rapidly, but we cannot provide to you an ETA for the moment. If we are able to proceed one, we will post it in our blog.
February 9th, 2012 1:24 am
Estimated time of resolution: N/A >>>>>>This is where iWeb fails
See this outage can be tolerated if you provide an ETA
February 9th, 2012 1:26 am
@Sathyavrathan PK Agree!
February 9th, 2012 1:27 am
I just wondering why my post comment here was erased, I only said “My smart server is down and a couple of minute online again after one minute then down again” :(
February 9th, 2012 1:29 am
Nick P.: Maximum I would say 5 hours and less
February 9th, 2012 1:29 am
our website was online for just 4-5 minutes and went down. More than 2 hours. It is unnerving
February 9th, 2012 1:31 am
Does anyone have any idea when it will be fixed?
February 9th, 2012 1:31 am
how do we run the business, if this is the case. we dont understand. please update us about the status
February 9th, 2012 1:32 am
Ours is down as well. and not knowing that this is a general network issue, just raised a ticket asking iweb to get my server online again. Any idea when this will be resolved?
February 9th, 2012 1:33 am
@krish it’s been down for 3.30 hours now. No ETA, nothing.
February 9th, 2012 1:33 am
I never received a noptification! I operate an active forum nd my members started text messaging me at 9:23 CST!
Only smart servers affected, great upggrade. I hate my damn smart servers and am about ready to UPGRADE back to classics, or bail on IWEB altogether!
And, lol for IWEB rep contact username!!! Seems like you REALLY care ab out your customers, don’t ou?
LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!!!!
Talk about an insult!
February 9th, 2012 1:34 am
Those are not even IWEB the ability to estimate a solution to the problem window.
February 9th, 2012 1:34 am
No ETA? 4 hours, 5 hours ? God knows :)
February 9th, 2012 1:36 am
We are down 3 hours already. it’s crazy
February 9th, 2012 1:37 am
I HATE YOU IWEB!
February 9th, 2012 1:37 am
How long will this still take? its now about 2 hour downtime.
February 9th, 2012 1:38 am
3 Damned hours, this is really great, and for ETA now they are updated the status to post a description in one hour, Great Job!!!
February 9th, 2012 1:38 am
We do not have an ETA to provide at this time and I apologize for that. We are now working with Cisco to speed things up a little.
February 9th, 2012 1:40 am
We are not a smart server customer and yet got affected!!!
I no longer even see my server under the hub control panel!!!???
ETA?
February 9th, 2012 1:40 am
Did anybody else understand lol’s last post, or was it absolute jibberish to the rest of you too?
February 9th, 2012 1:40 am
Thank you for the update iWeb. Please keep them coming a little faster. I think many of us here are just tired and nervous and really need reassurance.
Thanks.
February 9th, 2012 1:40 am
@chefsc Please, speed my refound, so i can pay back my customers..
Regards.
February 9th, 2012 1:41 am
Our website is down and its so crucial for us to get it back ..There is no proper way to access the support and the response is so slow .. what kinda service is this !!
February 9th, 2012 1:43 am
Thank you chefsc for the update…
February 9th, 2012 1:44 am
chefsc my prayers are with you :) and tell Cisco they should pay up since they are doing so well financially
February 9th, 2012 1:44 am
Our two smart servers went down. And its already 3 Hours of downtime. This is unacceptable, hundreds of our clients had complaining because of that dOwntime…
February 9th, 2012 1:48 am
it sure takes a long of time for iweb to replace a cisco switch
February 9th, 2012 1:49 am
Yeah, I got an email from a very legit U.S. company promising to match any offer from any other company , and it just may be time to put them to the test!
VERY UNACCEPTABLE!
February 9th, 2012 1:49 am
chefsc it needs to speed up more than a little this is really a critical issue not even major … its red alert, emergency !! And sorry yes now I know NE is in Quebec. But holy cow why no redundancy ? All switches are dead or what ??
February 9th, 2012 1:50 am
A big company such as iWeb must have some fail safe protocol when issue like this happen. as of now we the clients are falling from the sky without a parachute.
February 9th, 2012 1:51 am
my all Smart Servers are unreachable from last 3 Hours. God knows at what time they will start working. Clients are killing me because of unexpected down…
February 9th, 2012 1:51 am
thank you for deleting my comment, I will start migrating to a cloud based service tomorrow
goodbye iweb
February 9th, 2012 1:56 am
Are you deleting our comments critizicing your poor service? It seems you do. Shame on you!!!
February 9th, 2012 1:56 am
So, are you deleting our comments critizicing your poor service? It seems you do. Shame on you!!!
February 9th, 2012 1:56 am
ilya p … let us know which service :) I would love to follow you but I dont even have access to my data ;)
February 9th, 2012 1:57 am
I do not want to mention other company names, but we all know that some of the biggest players offer cloud hosting
February 9th, 2012 1:58 am
iweb deleted my comment when i said how much money i lost so far because of this downtime btw.
censorship ftl
February 9th, 2012 1:58 am
It was much much worse with hostican, fwiw. One time my servers there were down for 2 days, and there was almost no way to contact them.
Just hope service is up before the open tomorrow
February 9th, 2012 1:58 am
i follow to
February 9th, 2012 1:58 am
Continues:
Me: no answer?
Richard S.: some customers are able to access the customer hub right now.
Me: that’s right, some
Me: how come you don’t have replacements? or redundancy?
Me: aren’t you the big company you claim? no such big company will have this kind of issue for 4 hours!
Richard S.: rest assured everyhthing possible is being done right now to get the situation back to normal as fast as possible.
February 9th, 2012 1:58 am
3hrs+ down time..unacceptable….
February 9th, 2012 1:59 am
I can’t imagine they are concerned with deleting posts. More likely their comment system isn’t keeping up.
February 9th, 2012 1:59 am
4 years with IWEB now, and in the last year or so they’ve just kept getting steadily worse!
Looks like this might just be the right time to give my business back to The Planet! Or what’s left of my business after this fiasco!
Great way to take care of your loyal customers IWEB! Huge thumbs down!
February 9th, 2012 1:59 am
AND, he closed the chat!
February 9th, 2012 2:00 am
Our site has been down for over 3 hours and its morning time here. This is the highest traffic time for us and thanks to iWeb we are losing revenue on a per second basis.
This is the second incident since I got hosting with them.
Looking into alternatives now.
February 9th, 2012 2:00 am
rest assured is their reps’ moto now
February 9th, 2012 2:00 am
very bad my all services are down ….
February 9th, 2012 2:00 am

February 9th, 2012 2:00 am

February 9th, 2012 2:01 am

February 9th, 2012 2:02 am
in communist USSR the web hosts you!
February 9th, 2012 2:03 am
Yup, they are deleting comments. All their staff in the “office” cannot do anything as they aren’t in that datacenter. Instead of providing updates they are covering their a***s
February 9th, 2012 2:03 am
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ asi me siento cada que doy refresh
February 9th, 2012 2:04 am

February 9th, 2012 2:04 am

February 9th, 2012 2:04 am
Another iWeb rep update request.
February 9th, 2012 2:05 am
My 2 comments were missing I thought that was accidental, but NO
I will also go with cloud based service for one of my 3 servers, you can count on it, for us our business is critical.
what a poor poor service iWeb
February 9th, 2012 2:06 am
they dont even bother to answer outage tickets, i filed mine 3 hours ago. no reply.
February 9th, 2012 2:07 am
RT “Our site has been down for over 3 hours and its morning time here. This is the highest traffic time for us and thanks to iWeb we are losing revenue on a per second basis.

February 9th, 2012 2:07 am
iweb.com works fine though. I have to wonder how long the outage would have lasted if it was their sit that was down.
I bet it would have been far less than the 3 1/2 hours everyone else’s servers have been down now!
February 9th, 2012 2:08 am
you do realize that this is a wordpress site right, and comments are probably managed by an auto filter
Sathyavrathan PK you have said plenty of stuff and they have not been deleted so i would not think there is a person deleting stuff

February 9th, 2012 2:10 am

February 9th, 2012 2:10 am
@Mark their site never goes down. While ours go down every month, at least for some minutes.
February 9th, 2012 2:11 am
vache you just licking some behind
straight up
February 9th, 2012 2:12 am
Yeah, the are deleting. I did a post and, half a minute later, it was gone. No coincidence
February 9th, 2012 2:13 am
but Vache says they arent, and he says theyre the best host in the whole wide world!!
February 9th, 2012 2:14 am
I guess he’s full of something
February 9th, 2012 2:14 am
ok how about you repost it lol its called back button than click submit again, or just copy before you submit
February 9th, 2012 2:15 am
I LOST OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS SO FAR BECAUSE OF THIS OUTAGE
MY BUSINESS PARTNERS AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATES ARE TELLING ME TO MIGRATE TO CLOUD TOMORROW
(if I can access my data)
February 9th, 2012 2:16 am
looks like no body is working on these issues at iweb or iweb.com
February 9th, 2012 2:16 am
Apoguy, think about what that says! We’re nothing but $ signs to them, while their website is what generates our $ signs.
I had classic servers that NEVER went down in 3 years, my smart servers require rebooting at least every other week now.
And Tech Support is almost worthless these days. It took them over a week to CORRECTLY configure the reverse DNS on a new server I leased
February 9th, 2012 2:18 am
Arron I can confirm I am losing too
February 9th, 2012 2:18 am
how many iweb techies does it take to replace a cisco switch?
February 9th, 2012 2:19 am
none, becuz they aren’t doing it!
February 9th, 2012 2:19 am
Quite crazy that they won’t update us anymore. Hopefully this means they’re all busy working on the issue!
February 9th, 2012 2:20 am
they’re all busy getting their beauty sleeps, while we sit on needles
February 9th, 2012 2:20 am
All of them, and that’s still not enough. Other companies probably 1 person and 10 minutes!
February 9th, 2012 2:21 am
We are still actively working on the problem and are doing everything we can to put servers back online as fast as possible.
February 9th, 2012 2:22 am
We can start to pray now?
February 9th, 2012 2:22 am
@ilya p: Just so you know, no comments are being deleted and your comment must have been catched by the spam filter.
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
Unlucky ‘everything’ is not enough
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
fast is a relative term
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
Activley working on replacing a switch for 4 hours? Sorry I dont buy it!
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
Well, I sure hope there’s a damn good reason for this.
My suggestions for those losing lots of money:
- Move to a cloud solution asap, lots can deploy instantly
- Set up for redundancy in the future
If that’s not possible, try not to lose your mind. There’s not much anyone can do from our end…
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
3 hours 50 minutes – we are losing all our controls- 150+ critical customer websites from different regions & 100+ development websites…all down.. I am unable count the loss occurs to us at this time…. USDs per seconds.
@vache asatryan – May be you are right
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
thanks for clearing that up chef
February 9th, 2012 2:23 am
all iweb team are seems to sleeping….
February 9th, 2012 2:24 am
just so you know, my company (which I own) is going to exhibit @ ad:tech.
internet marketing is a small industry, and getting a bad name is quite easy
February 9th, 2012 2:24 am
Neither do I!
February 9th, 2012 2:25 am
I am not even mentioning the 5 hours down time that was caused by iweb techies a few weeks ago when they rebooted one of my servers while I was sleeping
February 9th, 2012 2:27 am
The person in live chat told me that he doesn’t know what the problem is. (Then he added a sorry at the end.) I think that we deserve some communication on the issue with our servers.
February 9th, 2012 2:28 am
May be they are sleeping as we are chatting here
February 9th, 2012 2:28 am
please give u how status update. we need to know it badly!
February 9th, 2012 2:28 am
I demand that you give us specific details of what’s happening!
February 9th, 2012 2:29 am
The iWeb guys must hide something, since they deleted my comments more times.
February 9th, 2012 2:29 am
it’s been over an hour. Need update, need ETA! What kind of hosting firm does this?
February 9th, 2012 2:29 am
I have been patient so far, but I think this unplanned outage will be the straw that’s gonna break the camels back
February 9th, 2012 2:30 am
True, it has been nearly 4 hours of downtime for my 120+ clients’ websites and email.
But I’m going to attempt to focus my energy on a positive outcome. I feel like it will all be fine soon.
I must say that iWeb has been reliable for the entire year I’ve been with them, although there was one other time when our servers were down.
Here’s to hoping that things will turn around quickly…
Keeping positive,
-RC
February 9th, 2012 2:31 am
@RC
I am feeling the same way to an extent. I just wish we could at least be updated, you know what I mean? Reassurance of that.
February 9th, 2012 2:32 am
I agree 100% with Nathan.
We can´t do anything at our end. i think all of us are mad with this.. and our business can be affected, etc.
But, everyone that works in internet knows this things can happens.. we must to trust they are working on it to fix it asap. Is not good for Iweb neither this situation…
Some updates could be good :)
Regards
Fabian
February 9th, 2012 2:33 am
We who work in the internet know how important redundancy is, which in this case seems like a non-existent feature to ask for.
February 9th, 2012 2:36 am
Well, the latest update that was 1:10 ago was just a lie to calm us down. WHERE IS OUR DAMN UPDATE?
February 9th, 2012 2:36 am
@rc: Thanks for the positive thoughts.
February 9th, 2012 2:37 am
Our network / IT team is on-site and working to bring the network back for all clients affected. We are aware that the downtime is exceeding expectations and we apologize for that . Thank you all for your patience and understanding.
February 9th, 2012 2:38 am
i think they are not working on issue . may be they are waiting for sysadmin
February 9th, 2012 2:38 am
Can we please get an update along with your thanks for positive thoughts? You’d get a lot of positive thoughts if you’d let us know the truth about this issue.
This is simply CRAZY… I have 3 Smart servers, sites with over 3mill views a month and ongoing income that is lost… what the heck and no eta? Really?
February 9th, 2012 2:40 am

February 9th, 2012 2:41 am
i am really upset
February 9th, 2012 2:41 am
Was about to order 2-3 more to keep up with growth and traffic… think I might look for a new host though if there is not a strong explanation and assurances that steps are being taken to prevent this in future
February 9th, 2012 2:41 am

February 9th, 2012 2:41 am

February 9th, 2012 2:45 am
Our smart 1 is now up but the other one is not yet! hope both are now back to normal…
February 9th, 2012 2:45 am
Thanks iweb team… our server is up, and all the services are running OK….
February 9th, 2012 2:46 am
Mine still down since 1 AM… soon for 5 hours…
February 9th, 2012 2:47 am
It’s all my fault.
Sorry guys.
I just upgraded my Pentium 2 from a 28.8K dial up modem to a 56K and I’m pretty sure I crashed the server.
Here was the latest report from my command prompt:
?> loading memory… 64KB OK
?> initializing storage… 20MB OK
?> load a:/spaceinvaders.exe
?> run
Again, I apologize for any inconveniences I may have caused. I think 56K is waaaaaay too much for the server to handle right now, so I’m just going to revert to the fax machine for all my business needs from this point forward.
If that doesn’t work, then smoke signals should prove themselves valuable. Especially for e-commerce.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sarcastic Edmonston III, Jr.

This just came:
Tonight at 10:30 We had a major network outage on our distribution
switch on the NE datacenter. Therefore all the servers with their ID
starting by NE are now unreachable.
We took immediate measures to solve this situation as soon as possible.
We are working hard on retablishing the connectivity asap.
Thank you very much for your comprehension and patience.

6AM, 4 Hours of downtime, and customers starting to ask for hes data files to change for other business
February 9th, 2012 2:58 am
I thought that by outsourcing we will have peace a of mind. And iWeb’s data center implements fault tolerance in its infrastructure. This should not be happening if it is true.
The network is down for more than 4 hours. Is this what you call ROCK SOLID RELIABILITY for Smart Server???
And there is no ETA!!! Who now NEEDS AN EXPERT ADVICE???
February 9th, 2012 3:00 am
I’m inside the virtual console. external/internal traffic still not available for my box. Hope the issue can be resolved the soonest.
February 9th, 2012 3:00 am

February 9th, 2012 3:02 am
Guys, I believe I’m probably going to have my attorney file a class action lawsuit against IWEB if this issue is not fixed in the next 30 minutes. Tjhis is clear and willful negligence in not reapairing the issue ASAP and I don’t care what their terms of service or disclaimers state, at this point THEY ARE LIABLE!
If you want to be included email me at: iwebsuit@gmail.com
February 9th, 2012 3:02 am
Bad, very bad… been down all day…….. Busiest time of the year this month and word will spread…. Guarantee I’ll lose customers from this

“Web guarantees 100% network uptime for all subscribers of a solution which includes a network connection. During one month, a complete network outages shall never occur. If a network outage should happen, iWeb will compensate its clients with a credit equivalent to one day of service for the first 15 minutes of unavailability and a credit of one day of service for each of the following hours. The credit can be claimed up to the monthly amount paid for the service. Unavailability is defined by failed PING commands to the IP address of the server hosting your web site. This unavailability must be directly caused by problems in the connection linking iWeb Technologies Inc. to the Internet and must be verifiable from multiple external Internet hosts.”
So what do we get? 5 days of service so far? That’s terrible.
February 9th, 2012 3:11 am
“Update 2012-02-09 2:50 AM EDT: The Network is now fully functionnal and all services, except Ping, are up and running so you might temporailiy receive false positive monitoring alerts although all affected Smart Servers are now accessible. The Our network team will investigate the problem and we should be able to post a more complete description of the incident later on today.”
WHAT????
My server is still down!!!
February 9th, 2012 3:12 am
Well, ONE site on my server is accessible. The rest are not.

February 9th, 2012 3:19 am
my site is already running…thanks a bunch iweb team…:)
February 9th, 2012 3:20 am
None of my sites on the server are resolving and I cannot access even via IP addresses directly, and how come you can say “All services are up and running”. However I can access my CPanel. Strange
February 9th, 2012 3:20 am
Still down, it is not resolved. What is going on???
February 9th, 2012 3:20 am
I am still down! Tech says no ETA. Going to be one interesting morning for me. The promise of 100% uptime is not valid with iWeb anymore!
February 9th, 2012 3:20 am
Mine has been up, then down, then up, then down … yo-yo springs to mind
February 9th, 2012 3:21 am
iweb m asking 4 u my lose 5000$ ans me wht u do now sad
February 9th, 2012 3:21 am
Still get difficult connection on our servers !!
Why something like this should happened.
We want answers…ASAP.
February 9th, 2012 3:21 am
@jUSTIN, wrong! willful negligence negates claims of non liability! At this point IWEB has shown negligence in stating the issue and not repairing it in a timely fashion!
February 9th, 2012 3:22 am
My server is still down. Please resolve
February 9th, 2012 3:22 am
some of my sites work, some dont. what could this be? lol.
February 9th, 2012 3:23 am
Might I add to an issue that still seems not to be working for me?
February 9th, 2012 3:23 am
Thanks for your patience everybody! Iam told that the situation is under control but that a minority of clients may still experience connectivity issues. Please let us know if it is ok from your side.
February 9th, 2012 3:23 am
No se resuelven las dns
February 9th, 2012 3:24 am
@Justin B.
We gonna see, since when iWeb fails with:
- no respect for their customers
- set a problem as solved knowing that has not been resolved
- have no preparation for possible problems
- does not guarantee redundancy
- LIE ensuring that it can not meet
February 9th, 2012 3:26 am
For those still having problems please mention your server ID on our live chat and an agent will do specific verifications

Hi Stéphane Jose .
My websites sometime opens, sometime not. Domains under the same domain open, some not.
I think there is a DNS issue or something
I am from Portugal
February 9th, 2012 3:28 am
Aiman Jalil Sarraf status is not set to solved but a majority of servers is now accessible. What is your server ID?
February 9th, 2012 3:29 am
@Stéphane Jose
What clients are up?
And you say a minority are down…
This is the same POOR response types you gave when your network was down last year from the fire.
Responses like yours are false and unprofessional.
IS ANYONE UP NOW – WE ARE NOT AND NEITHER ARE 4 OTHER iWEB CLIENTS i AM CHATTING WITH NOW?
February 9th, 2012 3:29 am
@Stephane until all sites on servers are operational, I do not consider the issue resolved. So far out of 6 or 7 sites tested, only 1 is responding. Very, very poor.

February 9th, 2012 3:38 am

February 9th, 2012 3:39 am
As mentionned in the blog post Ping has been temporaily deactivated so do not ping your server to test if it is up. Alternatively you can do a portscan (nmap) to test all other port or services on your server.
February 9th, 2012 3:39 am

Is the domain names not loading correctly along with email services not working correctly still a known issue in this event? I just want to make sure I’m not alone and that it’s being worked out. Confirm that you’re still working on this issue for everyone?
February 9th, 2012 4:12 am

February 9th, 2012 4:16 am
my server: host.pe-lindstrom-104586.tmp is still unreachable.
btw.. since i don’t think iWeb understands “reliability” this would mean if this is your only outage this year; you can’t achieve 4 9’s reliability and you are quickly slipping below 3 9’s
February 9th, 2012 4:16 am
Dear iWeb;
Every time you post an almost meaningless update, a unicorn dies. hope that “few minutes” doesn’t translate to hours…
February 9th, 2012 4:17 am

@ Oscar Navarro Go Easy Oscar about patience… last year when there was fire near the data center it took 22 hours for our servers to come back up.
For many in this chat it is day time… try telling your clients patience.

Thanks for your understanding Oscar! We understand this kind of situation is unpleasant.
Chat and phone support is having a higher level of calls, hence the delay.
All I can say for now is that the network team is hard at work addressing the problem. Please be patient.

February 9th, 2012 4:35 am

roberto: http://www.tiendaporcelana.es is an example
Jonathan B.: The website seems now to be reachable.
Jonathan B.: Is there anything else I can do for you today?
roberto: its not working for me
roberto: now yes
roberto: everything works now or it will be some issues?
Jonathan B.: We are monitoring to make sure that all will be correcgt.

February 9th, 2012 4:39 am
WHERE ARE MY SECONDARY IPS????
February 9th, 2012 4:39 am
yep. pretty annoying. The secondary IP issues has a direct impact on our nameservers. No client sites work even if 2 of our 3 servers are online. NE-T024-290 is down. Nameservers on secondary IP’s are also down. its a bust.
February 9th, 2012 4:39 am
@ RYAN – Google iWeb outages and you will see your statement is off…
February 9th, 2012 4:39 am
http://www.tiendaporcelana.es/ is up
February 9th, 2012 4:39 am
How can being down for 7 hours “Ruin” a business?
I have a backup incase our main service goes down. If your service is important to you and this downtime could loose you your business shouldnt you have a back up?
I mean.. It still doesnt get iWeb off the hook for taking this long but having contingencie options is a must in eCommerce.
Complaining also doesnt get the service fixed faster. It just disheartens the people trying to help you.
February 9th, 2012 4:40 am
Why can’t they understand that we all are small business and we earn our reputation after months of hard work.
Then suddenly 6+ hours of downtime and you are finished. Your clients will post bad reviews on forums, they will yell at you and you can’t even provide an explanation to them because iWeb staff is just fooling us.
February 9th, 2012 4:41 am
My chat experience….
gary: why is my server always goign down???
gary: we have not received any response
gary: i just submitted another one….
Nick P.: We will be analysing the situation
gary: you guys keep saying that..can you please let mek now what the problem is now?
gary: with the server?
gary: this is not related to the network outage right?
gary: hello?
Nick P.: As mentioned in our blog, a minority of customers may get some network issues on their Smart Servers. We suggest you to provide to us the IP addresses that are not reachable on your end and your server ID to let us continue our investigation.
gary: i think its 184.107.218.98, to 184.107.218.102
Nick P.: Greetings, Network Incident on NE http://blog.iweb.com/en/tag/incident_network_20120208 (blog updated) if your server is not back online within 15 min, or if you can access your server from ip but not domain please open a ticket in server outage. If your server ID does not start wit NE and is unreacable please open a ticket in server outage, For any other question or technical issue right now please open a ticket in the right section as our agent on livechat may be unable to assist you right now due to the crysis
gary: nick this doenst really answer my question

1- service network restart
2- service ipaliases restart
I hope it helps.

February 9th, 2012 4:58 am
Well Stephane, let me quote exactly what you said at 4:13, or 42 minutes ago. If that was not a lie, then I’d like to know why yu think it wasn’t!
“Update 2012-02-09 4:10 AM EDT:Network team had to reboot several routers on NE datacenter. Some Smart Servers will be unavailable for a few minutes. Thank you for your patience.”
It’s now been 6 1/2 hours my servers have been down, I’ve lost a $2,800 per year client, probably a lot of members on one of my forums, and hundreds of dollars in affiliate commissions!

service ipaliases restart (for servers with cpanel)
That would be nice to do if we could even access our server… don’t you think you need to verify everyone can access before you do an update like this?

@ALL
A network maintenance (not impacting “up” servers) is actually under going.
This should solve most of the remaining servers with the use of the actions recommended above in our “2012-02-09 12:20 EST” update.
We remind you that due to the greater amount of tickets to be treated, the response time on the chat and the phone is slower than normal.
thanks again for your understanding.

Our server is still down, What is going on with Iweb for the last 14 hours. I do not believe any company can be down this long. What is it about iweb advertisement 100% uptime and rock solid infrastructure. Quite funny that they took the propaganda down. I hope they put it on the front page explaining to potentially that they’ve been down for the last 14hours and is not capable of taking on more clients because they have to service current client first.

As I said before, the actual network maintenance should correct the problems we still have for some customers.

February 9th, 2012 3:54 pm
@Apoguy
ok for the main IP for NE-T033-230. and happy to see at least the main one is working and your server is back.
The network maintenance is actually done to make sure that all IP adresses (including secondary IP’s) are well routed to the right servers. that could be your problem.
The actual network maintenance should correct the IP/VLAN problems we still have for some customers.
thanks for your understanding.

I’ve merged your 2 ticket into one (5234407).
You must be one of the last 20 customers still having problems with your IP’s.
Your ticket should be taken care of soon.
Thank you for your understanding…
February 9th, 2012 4:53 pm
If you can get into your Virtual Control Panels now, try re-initializing the smart layer, then when server is back up restart the network and ipaliases, that how I got mine working again.
February 9th, 2012 5:01 pm
Finally everything is up for me, we have 5 servers with Iweb and 3 of them was down between 6 to 18 hours. I don’t think my client would be confortable if I mention bring them to iweb from their current datacenter. Iweb Tried I guess they’ve been lucky so far all these years about being up but with what’s going on, from my experience they do not have all the preparation in place to backup their claim. Just my 2 cents.

Hello! Great work, and thanks for keeping us updated while the incident happened.
Information feed is always important when these things happen.
Congrats all arround!
February 10th, 2012 12:42 am
Hello,
Can you assure us that this will not happen again in the future? We are a high traffic website and we cannot afford a 15-hour downtime.
February 10th, 2012 4:29 am
I trust we will all be suitably reimbursed for the downtime with additional days of web hosting as per your 100% uptime guarantee:
http://iweb.com/about-iweb/legal/uptime
Will this be done automatically or do we need to submit a claim?
My logs show I was done for over 12 hours!
February 10th, 2012 12:15 pm
@riclops
Thanks a lot for the kind words.
Once again we learned a lot during his incident and will make changes to the communication procedures / teams to continue to improve this information / conversation feed.

@Francis
we’ll include in our post-mortem the measures we’ll take to make sure to avoid unexpected downtimes for our customers.
thanks
February 10th, 2012 12:23 pm
@Simon
iWeb has always taken seriously its SLA and we will stand our promises and apply the credits required.
I do not know actually if these will be done automatically so i would advise you to request them by yourself on your customer hub.
here’s the way to request SLA credits :
A/ Logon to the hub
B/ browse to :
iWeb > Customer Hub > Finance and Billing > Renewable Products >
C/ find the server involved and click on Details on the line of this server.
D/ then you’ll be able to click on “SLA credit request” and access the form to fill.
Thanks again for your trust and patience.
February 10th, 2012 12:29 pm
@all
The incident affecting our network network is now resolved. Note that a few servers are still experiencing connectivity issues. As these problems are not necessarily connected to the network outage we experienced, we must investigate them manually one by one. If you have already created a ticket, there is no need to create a new one, our sysadmins will give you an update directly. You can also follow-up on your ticket directly by replying to it by email.
Please note that actually, when you create a ticket, it currently will not be displayed in the customer hub.
Do not worry, we have it in our system. The ticket in the hub functionality should be restored in the following hours/days.
Also, response time on the chat and on the phone is also back to more normal levels.
A more detailed technical update will also be published in the next 24-48h following our postmortem.
I personally would like to thank you all again for your trust, patience, and understanding.
The comments in this closed incident will be disabled from now on.
