How to get your hands on our beta Cloud Server

Published on February 20, 2012 at 2:49 pm by Stéphane Jose in: Web Hosting, iWeb

You may have heard through the grapevine that iWeb will soon launch a new product: the Cloud Server.

A beta version was launched a few weeks ago that made a limited number VMs available to Smart Server customers right in their Control Center.

As the beta continues, we will launch additional beta servers at a rate of 25 per week (first come, first served). To participate in the beta and to know the next release date, you must register on the notification list at the address: CloudServerBeta@iweb.com

You will then be able to activate your free beta test Cloud Server right in your Control Center by clicking on the “Add a server” button, then selecting the Cloud Server beta box and follow the instructions onscreen

The specs of the Cloud Server you will be testing are:

  • Linux CentOS 64bit
  • 1 CPU compute unit
  • 512 Megs of Ram
  • 10GB of storage space
  • Full root access via ssh

Note that this is an early beta release and functionnalities are limited at this time. This is not the final product. More functionalities will be added in subsequent releases.

As beta testers, you will be able to participate actively in the development of this new product. In exchange for free access to a Cloud Server during the beta test, you will need share your comments and suggestions and of course report any problems you notice.

We are counting on you, your comments are important!

Comments

  1. How does Cloud Server compares to amazon EC2 services ?

I would like to evaluate this cloud server.

  2. Hi Charles. It will be a simpler service, at least for starters (only cloud servers for now), aimed to allow hybrid hosting with Smart Servers, BUT usage-billed.
To enter the beta add your email address to our notification list (click the link in the article). You will be notified when the next batch of test servers are available in the Control Center.
You’ll need to be quick though, it is first come, first serve.

  3. We only have a classic dedicated server – does this mean we are unable to participate since we don’t have access to the Control Center?

  4. @George In fact if you have an active account with iWeb you can connect to the Control Center at http://cc.iweb.com with your credentials (same login/password as your Customer Hub). Simply add your name on our notification list (as explained in the article) and you will receive a mail next time a batch of test servers is released in the CC.

  5. This with Windows, more RAM and disk space and I’d be very interested.
