Ubuntu LTS 10.04 now available at iWeb

As you may already know, Ubuntu releases an LTS version (Long Term Support) every 2 years and the last release was in april 2008.

We put all necessary efforts to offer you the brand new version at the same time as the official launch.

Version 10.04 offers the following benefits for dedicated servers: updated kernel to version 2.6.32, faster reboot and the latest versions of software.

iWeb, FTW!

It’s not often you find a technology partner as passionate about their customers and community as the folks at iWeb.

A few months ago iWeb graciously donated a few servers for a pilot project to help local Montreal OSS communities with their development & testing efforts on IIS7, while we also donated $1000 to the project once it was ported over to Windows and IIS.

The idea was well received when it was announced at CareerDemoCamp Montreal in December and 2 bounties were accepted shortly thereafter. A couple months later both of our initial projects have successfully ported over to Windows and IIS (ImpressCMS and TikiWiki) and just recently we had another bounty accepted by our friends at! iWeb to reward the innovative entrepreneur of the year

rjccqThe Quebec young chambers of commerce association (RJCCQ) just launched their 2010 contest “Concours inter-jeunes chambres”.

This competition aims to recognize the involvement and the uniqueness of its member organizations.

This year iWeb and the RJCCQ combined their efforts to create a new award category, “Innovative Entrepreneur of the Year IWEB” to acknowledge the dynamism, creativity, commitment and success of young entrepreneurs.

Eric Chouinard, President and CEO of iWeb, will be pleased to present a $3,000 prize to the winner of this award at the Gala Dinner planned as part of the RJCCQ Congress to be held May 28th, 29th and 30th, 2010 at the Marriott Chateau Champlain in Montreal.

This contest is opened to RJCCQ affiliated young chambers of commerce and their respective members. The deadline for applications is Monday, April 26, 2010.

A second power-generation unit for iWeb-CO

Always concerned about the quality of our service, we have recently installed a second power-generation unit in our data center on Nun’s Island (iWeb-CO).

Our goal is to maintain a N +1 infrastructure, meaning that each piece of critical equipment is redundant and can be immediately replaced in case of failure, as it is the case with our uninterruptible power supply units (UPS).

The newly installed generator is a Cummins 1.75MW. These generators can take over in the event of a failure of the regular electrical power service normally supplied by Hydro-Quebec.
